This Is the Hour for the 'Mossad Law'

He recalls that in March 1998 he brought to the Knesset the proposal for the 'General Security Service Law', intended to regulate the Shin Bet's activities. During the debate, MK Ophir Pines-Paz suggested also considering similar legislation for the Mossad, but the security establishment objected due to the nature of the Mossad's operations abroad. Hanegbi notes that since then, such an initiative has not gained momentum. He argues that events of recent years, including the war that broke out in October 2023 and the pager operation, necessitate a rethink. He emphasizes that even skilled security systems have no guarantee of eternal success, and therefore oversight mechanisms are needed. Hanegbi calls on the next Knesset to address this challenge.
