"They took your life cruelly": Eldar Dayan laid to rest

His funeral comes after days of searching and uncertainty that ended last weekend with the hardest news. At the funeral, his cousin Hagar eulogized him, saying: "You were not a criminal or a felon... We have a lot of pain and anger at the cruelty with which they took your life, anger that they didn't let you speak and clear your name, anger at the injustice done to you by the police and the media." The affair began on July 16, when Dayan sent a last message to his girlfriend - "Mess, we'll talk" - and contact was lost. Two days later, an abandoned car with a smashed windshield and bloodstains was found in Petah Tikva, belonging to the mother of one of the suspects. The bitter end came last Thursday when search forces located Dayan's body in an open area near the Yarkon Interchange, about 200 meters from where the car was found. His identification was completed at the Abu Kabir National Institute of Forensic Medicine using advanced DNA technologies. Meanwhile, the police have escalated suspicions against Dayan's two friends, Omri David Peretz and Maxim Braverman, who were with him in his final hours. The two, who gave contradictory versions in their investigation, were initially arrested on suspicion of obstructing the investigation and threats, and now the police attribute to them suspicion of involvement in murder.
