Upon entry, officers located several suspects believed to have been participating in gambling games, and a search led to the seizure of equipment used for running the gambling operation, including 28 packs of cards and suitcases of chips. At the end of the operation, three suspects who held the premises and two additional participants were detained for questioning, and all five involved were transferred for further investigation at the police station. The incident adds to police activity against illegal gambling dens in Ashdod. Last May, station detectives raided another location in the city, where computers and a recording system were seized, and the operator was detained for questioning. A month earlier, station detectives and Sayeret Ha'har (Special Patrol Unit) fighters raided a gambling site, where 15 computers and a recording system were found, and the owner and three players were detained. Last week, Ashkelon station detectives and Magav South fighters raided a gambling den in Ashkelon, seizing a computer, cards, cash, and checks, and four suspects were detained. Police are investigating suspicions that a senior figure in the southern crime world is behind the operation of the venue.
