The party 'Kahal', a new Haredi party launched about two weeks ago, today (Sunday) revived the historic initiative of the late Rabbi Menachem Porush and distributed hundreds of thousands of leaflets from a helicopter over Haredi population centers across the country. The move was intended to mark 50 years since the primaries for the Haredi representation in the Knesset, held in the year 5736 (1975-1976). The party, established by Haredi activists from Hasidic, Sephardic, and Lithuanian backgrounds, proposes that its Knesset representatives be elected in primaries based on registered members. Party leaders, Rabbi Shlomo Elboim, Rabbi Dov Beksht, and Yitzhak Chala, made a statement at a helicopter pad in Rishon LeZion before takeoff. They said that the decision of the Haredi press systems to block publication of the party's advertisements is 'outrageous', and that 'no boycott or attempt to silence will prevent our message from reaching the public'. Elboim emphasized that 'history repeats itself' and that 'the attempt to silence us will not succeed'. Many residents came out to the streets and balconies to watch the aerial display.
