For the first time, all three leaders come from separatist parties: John Swinney of the Scottish National Party (SNP), Michelle O'Neill of Sinn Féin from Northern Ireland, and Eluned Morgan of Plaid Cymru from Wales. However, there are differences in their approaches: Swinney and O'Neill speak openly about referendums, while Morgan rules out such a move at this time. O'Neill stated that the United Kingdom is in its 'final days' and that Prime Minister Keir Starmer will hear this 'clearly and loudly'. The summit takes place after Starmer hinted in parliament at the possibility of a second referendum in Scotland, provided there is clear public support. In the 2014 referendum, 55% voted to remain in the kingdom, but recent polls show an almost equal split between those supporting remaining and those supporting secession.
