The Star of David pendant protest: "For the children who don't dare"

Swedish Liberal Party leader Simona Mohamsson wore a Star of David pendant during a televised debate, saying she wears it for children who don't dare to do so. She criticized the Left Party for inadequate handling of antisemitism. Christian Democrats leader Ebba Busch supported her and attacked Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar.

Swedish Liberal Party leader Simona Mohamsson arrived at a major televised debate wearing a Star of David pendant, declaring she wears it "for the children who don't dare to do so in today's Sweden." The debate was organized by the newspapers Expressen and Dagens Industri. Mohamsson attacked the Left Party, accusing elements within it of failing to properly address antisemitism. In a striking moment, Christian Democratic leader Ebba Busch placed her hand on the pendant and addressed Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar, saying "it's not Swedish to think that a five-year-old in Gothenburg... deserves to hear threats, hatred, and even that she should die." Busch accused Dadgostar of failing to purge her party of "Islamist antisemitism." Mohamsson, 32, daughter of a Palestinian father and Lebanese mother, was elected party leader in June 2025. The gesture is seen as a prominent political statement ahead of the elections.
