The Houthis already had fire control over the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and are now getting closer. They control the northern city of Hodeidah and a more southern area, close to the strait itself. Reports indicate a takeover of islands in the southern Red Sea, very close to the strait. The approach comes against the backdrop of Iran's weakening in the Strait of Hormuz, loss of control and economic strangulation, leading it to seek another pressure lever. It is possible that the Iranian regime will use the Yemeni proxy to harm another important strait. On the other hand, the forces fighting the Houthis are trying to downplay the event, claiming they lost a battle but not the entire war. Meanwhile, the Houthis are deepening their control in western Yemen, a globally alarming move.
