The shift in the dangerous phenomenon: "It used to be part of the joy, you can celebrate without"
A dramatic decline in the phenomenon of gunfire at events and weddings in Arab society, thanks to increased police enforcement and internal social initiatives. Police report a drop of over 90% in the number of cases, using observation balloons and signage in halls calling to refrain from gunfire. Alongside this, there has been a decrease in the number of murders in Arab society, although the figures remain high.
A dramatic decline has been recorded in the phenomenon of gunfire at events and weddings in Arab society, which has previously led to tragedies of deaths and injuries. The police attribute the decline to increased enforcement led by Commissioner Danny Levy, including the deployment of observation balloons over Arab communities and a zero-tolerance policy, involving immediate intervention at events and action against those involved, even the groom himself. Alongside enforcement, a new social trend is evident: signs are hung in event halls calling on guests not to bring weapons, with messages like "Happy without gunfire" and "Respecting the guests." Residents and public figures from Arab society welcome the change and note that it is possible to celebrate safely without fear of gunfire. However, alongside the decline in the phenomenon, the murder situation in Arab society remains severe: since the beginning of 2026, 162 people have been murdered, compared to 165 in the corresponding period last year, and in all of 2025, 255 people were murdered.
