The Mystery of Eldar Dayan's Death: How the Murder Case Collapsed

Nearly a month after his disappearance, the murder case of Eldar Dayan reaches a breaking point: all seven suspects are expected to be released from custody at the request of the police, after the Institute of Forensic Medicine failed to determine the cause of death and no evidence was found establishing how he died.

Nearly a month after the disappearance of Eldar Dayan, the murder case that has been investigated for weeks reaches a breaking point today (Monday). All seven suspects in the case are expected to be released from custody at the request of the police, after the Institute of Forensic Medicine failed to determine the cause of Dayan's death and no evidence has been found so far establishing how he died. The case began as a missing person investigation. Dayan disappeared, and for days his family and the police tried to trace his whereabouts. Later, while his location was still unknown, the police published his details as a wanted person. The remains were eventually found in an open area just meters from the Yello gas station in Petah Tikva – the last place Dayan was seen alive. In the last footage, Dayan is seen in the area of the station without visible injuries. One of the major gaps in the case: the area where Dayan's remains were found had been searched four times previously, and in none of them was Dayan located. His mobile phone has also not been found to this day. After 18 days of tests at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the cause of death could not be determined due to the condition of the body's remains. A source involved in the investigation told Walla that animals had damaged the tissues left in the field. Two of the suspects, Omri Peretz and Maxim Barberman, are likely to be charged with offenses related to drugs and hit-and-run. The other five suspects are charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy, and assault. Today's hearing may mark the end of the detention chapter in the case, but the mystery remains unanswered.
