Clancy strangled her three young children to death in her home in Massachusetts in January 2023, and then attempted suicide by jumping from a window, which left her paralyzed from the waist down. Since then, the case has split the public into two camps: one sees her as a victim of severe postpartum psychosis, and the other claims it was premeditated cold-blooded murder. Now, the storm takes an economic turn: the cost of her psychiatric and nursing hospitalization at the state-run "Tewksbury" hospital is estimated at $1,700 to $1,850 per day, or over $675,000 per year. If she is declared not guilty by reason of insanity, she may remain in a closed institution for the rest of her life, at a total cost of tens of millions of dollars from taxpayer money. Her attorney has appealed to President Trump for a pardon.
