A senior security official revealed an extensive IDF plan to expand operational control in the Gaza Strip. According to the official, the Southern Command, Ground Forces, and the Technology and Logistics Directorate are preparing for engineering operations that will include neutralizing a Hamas terror tunnel system that has not yet been addressed. Data presented to Defense Minister Israel Katz reflects a high rate of destruction and effectiveness in rendering tunnels unusable, along with deployment of warning capabilities against new tunnel digging. The move will include heavy engineering equipment on a large scale, regardless of cabinet approval for the entry of a multinational force into Rafah. Meanwhile, the manhunt continues for commanders of Hamas's military wing and Nukhba operatives who crossed the border on October 7, including those working to rebuild the wing. A large naval intelligence effort is underway in cooperation with Military Intelligence and the Shin Bet to thwart the rebuilding of the naval Nukhba unit, which could regain offensive capability against Israel.
