Jerusalem will mark a significant milestone this weekend with the opening of the L3 line, the first segment of the light rail's green route. The new line, 7 kilometers long, includes 13 stations (12 new and one shared) and connects the Turim station on Jaffa Street to the Malha neighborhood in the south of the city. Initial frequency will be 12-15 minutes, later increasing to 8-10 minutes during peak hours. The line passes through key hubs: Binyanei Ha'uma, the Government Complex, the Givat Ram campus, Teddy Stadium, and the Arena Hall. However, by police order, Teddy Station will be closed during major events, and passengers will be directed to nearby stations. The opening was delayed from March 2026 due to the effects of the war, the departure of foreign workers, and supply chain disruptions. Tamir Cohen, CEO of the Egged Transportation team, said that the entire network will open within a year or two. Minister Miri Regev and Mayor Moshe Lion welcomed the transition to an intersecting light rail network.
