The Future Is Already Here: Augmented Reality Glasses for Stroke Rehabilitation
Clalit Health Services in the Haifa and Western Galilee district, in collaboration with Motion Informatics, is testing an innovative neurological rehabilitation system based on augmented reality glasses. The system combines artificial intelligence, functional electrical stimulation, and real-time muscle activity monitoring, and is currently in a clinical evaluation phase. The goal: to improve rehabilitation for patients after stroke and head injuries.
Clalit Health Services, in the Haifa and Western Galilee district, is testing, in collaboration with Motion Informatics, an innovative neurological rehabilitation system based on augmented reality glasses. The system integrates several technologies: augmented reality glasses, functional electrical stimulation (FES), muscle activity monitoring via surface electromyography (sEMG), and real-time data analysis. During practice, data on movement quality, range of motion, and muscle activation patterns are collected and transmitted to the treating team. The technology is in a clinical evaluation phase, and Clalit emphasizes that it is not yet a proven treatment. Dr. Michael Hauser, Director of Innovation at Clalit's Haifa and Western Galilee district, said the collaboration allows examining how to integrate advanced digital tools into community rehabilitation processes. Tali Rapaport, Director of Occupational Therapy Services at Clalit, stressed that at this stage the clinical potential of the system is being examined. If evaluation results are positive, such technologies may in the future be integrated more broadly into rehabilitation programs for patients after stroke, head injuries, and other neurological conditions.
