The facility belongs to a company managed by Bulgarian arms dealer Emilian Gebrev. The Bulgarian prosecution claims that Gebrev and his facilities were targets of attacks by Russian agents in the past. In 2024, arrest warrants were issued for six Russian citizens suspected of involvement in the destruction of the company's weapons warehouses between 2011 and 2020. The warehouses contained ammunition destined for export to Ukraine and Georgia. The prosecution linked the explosions at the company's facilities, the 2015 poisoning attempt on Gebrev, and explosions at ammunition warehouses in the Czech Republic in 2014. Moscow rejected the claims.
