Nearly a year after Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir ordered the dismissal of the Gaza Division intelligence officer, Lt. Col. A., from regular and reserve service, the officer continues to serve in the IDF. The decision was made in November 2025, following the determination by Reserve Major General Sami Turjeman that the officer bears responsibility for failing to convey an intelligence picture that could have prevented the October 7 disaster. The head of Military Intelligence, Major General Shlomi Binder, dismissed him from all command and intelligence roles. In practice, the officer is challenging the Chief of Staff's decision: he serves in the cyber unit, arrives every morning in a military vehicle at his office in the Kirya in Tel Aviv, and receives a full military salary. Sources in the IDF say that all his commanders have been dismissed from service, and many believe he failed miserably in his conduct before October 7. The officer is the son of a former major general, close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and identified with the campaign against establishing a state commission of inquiry.
