The Danger Lurking in Chinese Medical Equipment: Cyber Expert on the Solution That Will Prevent the Threat

He called for regulation and communication monitoring, noting that most medical equipment comes from China in cheap tenders. He also addressed information leakage via TikTok and politicians' use of these platforms.
Dr. Harel Menashri, head of cybersecurity at the Holon Institute of Technology and one of the founders of the Shin Bet's cyber unit, spoke today (Wednesday) with Eyal Berkovich and Ariel Segal on Radio 103FM about the concern that China might breach medical devices it sold to hospitals in Israel. Menashri clarified Segal's remarks, saying that the Shin Bet did not provide Chinese cars or phones, and that for many years the entry of Chinese-made equipment has been avoided. He added that the military has understood the danger and is removing Chinese systems from various places. Regarding medicine, he noted that almost all medical equipment in the country comes through tenders from the cheapest source, usually China, and that any Chinese technology serves as a sensor for intelligence transmission. The solution, he said, is regulation and communication monitoring, although this would block system updates. He also addressed the leakage of Chinese information to Iran via TikTok, saying the information was transferred deliberately, and that politicians use these platforms, which delays regulation.
