The American colonel reveals: "I told Trump to remove nuclear weapons from Turkey"
Retired American Colonel Douglas Macgregor claims he advised President Trump to remove US nuclear weapons from Turkey, fearing the Turks would seize them. Macgregor describes Turkey's NATO position as fragile and makes an extraordinary claim that Pakistan promised Ankara nuclear weapons if needed.
Retired Colonel Douglas Macgregor, a former Pentagon official, claims he advised US President Donald Trump to remove American nuclear weapons from Turkey. In an interview, Macgregor described Turkey's position in NATO as fragile and explained that the main concern is that the Turks would seize the weapons, not necessarily to use them, but to prevent others from accessing them. Macgregor claimed that the Turkish military leadership explicitly told Americans that if they need nuclear weapons, they don't need the US, as Pakistan has promised them such weapons. He linked this to the Pakistani-Turkish-Saudi alliance. Additionally, Macgregor referred to a visit by a Turkish leader to a mosque where an Ottoman sultan is buried, interpreting this as a signal to Israelis that the Turks will not tolerate the "occupation of Damascus."
