On Friday, August 21, Fathi Khazem, a former colonel in the Palestinian Authority security forces, was eliminated in Jenin. He attacked an IDF soldier from the 890th Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade with a knife during an operation to identify and apprehend terrorists. The soldier opened fire and eliminated the attacker. There were no casualties among Israeli troops. Fathi Khazem was the father of terrorist Raed Khazem, who in April 2022 killed three Israelis in an attack at the Ilka café on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv. After his son's elimination, Khazem senior gave a speech expressing pride in his son's actions and calling on others to follow his example. Since then, he and another son had been in hiding. Khazem held the position of head of the PA National Security Service in Nablus for many years. He was known for his extremely negative attitude toward Israel and was considered a 'symbol of resistance' among Palestinians, maintaining this image through social media posts and inciting lectures in the Jenin refugee camp.
