Tensions in the Iranian leadership: TV censors Pezeshkian - and the Revolutionary Guards are pleased

Amid an escalating internal political conflict in Iran, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Ahmad Vahidi, has entered the fray in the crisis raging between the ruling factions in Tehran. Vahidi praised the head of the state broadcasting authority, Peyman Jebelli, for its performance during the war with the United States, and supported the institution that clashed with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and faced criticism from Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. This direct support from the military leadership comes against the backdrop of a broader power struggle. Tensions escalated after Pezeshkian's office accused the broadcasting authority of censoring parts of an interview with him, in which he discussed secret instructions issued by the former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to negotiate with Washington. Ghalibaf was also censored: the authority removed parts of a recorded interview with him, which included sensitive topics such as inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency, frozen Iranian assets, a memorandum of understanding regarding $300 billion in reconstruction credit, and his response to U.S. President Donald Trump. The parliament accused the authority of arbitrary censorship and failure in managing the "knowledge war."
