The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) today published findings from a new documentary about actor and musician Jared Leto, in which ten women testify to alleged sexual harassment and assault by him. According to the report, the incidents occurred between 2002 and 2016, when the complainants were aged 14 to 19 and Leto was in his 30s and 40s. Nine of the women appearing in the film are coming forward publicly for the first time. Four women attributed criminal behavior to Leto, including sexual assault and statutory rape. One complainant alleged she was sexually assaulted by Leto in a motel bathroom when she was 17. Another testimony described sexual intercourse with the actor in California when the complainant was 17, an event defined under local law as statutory rape due to the age of consent. Another woman testified that at age 19, Leto threatened her with sexual assault after she was left alone with him in a hotel room to which she was led by his assistants. Some testimonies described a pattern of prolonged contact with minors. One woman said that from age 16, Leto engaged in explicit sexual phone conversations with her, exploiting his status. According to her, a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) was later sent to her in an attempt to prevent her from revealing the relationship, but she refused to sign it. The BBC confirmed it reviewed the agreement documents and correspondence supporting her account. Another complainant described an incident in 2005 where Leto made sexual comments toward her when she was 14 and even tried to instruct a security guard to bring her backstage. The women's testimonies were joined by two former crew members who worked with Leto's band, Thirty Seconds to Mars. They described discomfort among the crew regarding how Leto interacted with young girls and invited them to his dressing room or private residences. The BBC said it was able to verify many details with friends and family who were informed of the incidents in real time, as well as through examination of photos and text messages. Despite repeated inquiries from the film's production, Jared Leto has not responded to the allegations presented. In the past, in response to similar publications in other media outlets, Leto has denied all accusations against him.
