‘Tell Me Everything’ tops Ophir Awards nominations with highest-ever 16 nods

The feature film 'Tell Me Everything' received 16 Ophir Awards nominations on Sunday, setting a new record for the most nods any film has received in the history of the Israeli awards. The movie, written and directed by Moshe Rosenthal, premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival and had its Israeli premiere at the Jerusalem Film Festival last month. It tells the story of a young boy in 1987 grappling with the discovery that his father is gay. The film is nominated for best picture, best director, best screenplay, best actor, best actress, and several other categories. Also competing for best picture are Avi Nesher's 'Our Loves', which follows characters whose stories intertwine during the October 7 Hamas onslaught into Israel's south; 'Where To?', an Israeli-German film about a Palestinian Uber driver in Berlin; 'Mama', about a Polish woman returning to her family; 'Home', written, directed, and starring Reut Akkerman; and 'The Wedding Entertainer', directed by Gidi Dar and starring Shuli Rand. The winner of the best picture prize generally becomes Israel's submission for the Academy Awards. Last year's winner, 'The Sea', led Culture Minister Miki Zohar to cut state funding and establish an alternate ceremony. Israeli films have been nominated 10 times for the Oscar but never won. The ceremony is scheduled for September 9.
