Tel Aviv Has Many Flaws. And That's Exactly What It Wants the World to See
The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, through its tourism arm, produced a promotional video titled "Messy & Beautiful" that showcases the city's flaws—crowded streets, traffic jams, noise, and construction—as part of its authentic charm. The video aims to attract tourists during the complex period since October 7, presenting a different marketing approach that emphasizes complexity rather than polished perfection.
The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, through its tourism arm "World City and Tourism," produced a new promotional video titled "Messy & Beautiful" for summer 2026. The video was born out of the complex period the city has experienced since October 7, and out of a desire to send a "greeting" to city lovers in Israel and around the world. Instead of presenting idyllic images, the video focuses on small moments: crowded streets, buses, cars, and scooters alongside beaches, construction sites, neighborhood cafes, and new entertainment venues. It features artists, entrepreneurs, matkot players, street cats, house parties, and quiet Saturday mornings. The central message is that the mess and chaos are part of the local identity, and the beauty of Tel Aviv-Yafo is not despite the imperfection, but precisely because of it. The video offers a different approach to urban and tourism marketing, one that does not try to hide complexity but makes it part of the story.
