Technion scientists receive grants for cancer research on pregnancy, heart disease, recurrance

Three Technion researchers have been awarded grants from the Israel Cancer Research Fund for studies on chemotherapy during pregnancy, cancer cell survival strategies, and the link between heart disease and cancer. Prof. Irit Ben Aharon will examine long-term effects of chemotherapy on children exposed in utero, Dr. Ido Livneh will investigate how cancer cells resist treatment over time, and Dr. Shira Landau will explore shared mechanisms between heart disease and cancer using an organ-on-a-chip model.

Three Technion-Israel Institute of Technology faculty members have been awarded research grants from the Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF). Prof. Irit Ben Aharon received a Research Professorship grant to study the effects of chemotherapy administered to pregnant women on their children. Her research uses a preclinical model to map short- and long-term effects, finding that some effects emerge in adulthood. Dr. Ido Livneh received a Project grant to investigate secondary survival strategies in cancer cells that allow them to survive for months or years before developing resistance. Dr. Shira Landau received a Career Development Award to study shared mechanisms between heart disease and cancer using a human heart and cancer Organ-on-a-Chip model, focusing on macrophages.
