Technion ranks 25th worldwide in AI, outperforming elite US universities

The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology was ranked 25th worldwide in a new AI Production Capacity index compiled by US public relations firm W5, measuring universities' influence on AI research, talent, and entrepreneurship. The Technion ranked first among Israeli institutions and fourth in Europe. It outperformed Harvard in two categories: number of faculty members and graduates working in the AI industry, and number of alumni who founded AI companies. Despite operating with significantly fewer resources than many elite US universities, the Technion also ranked ahead of Duke, Northwestern, and the University of Pennsylvania. Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan noted the dramatic disparity in resources and highlighted the university's pioneering role in machine learning. He emphasized that AI tools are now essential in the workplace and that the Technion ensures students acquire these skills alongside a strong foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering. The index also considers factors such as unicorn creation, venture funding, research output, computing infrastructure, and mentions by generative AI systems. When adjusted for institutional size, the Technion's alumni entrepreneurship performance was comparable to Stanford, which placed first overall.
