Tax Authority: We Won't Work in Bnei Brak Without Security

After an attack on Tax Authority inspectors in Bnei Brak, the civil servants' union has banned them from working in the city without security. Union head Ofir Alkalai sent a letter to authority director Shai Aharonovich demanding police escort, additional equipment, insurance, and a salary supplement. The Tax Authority announced a resumption of work, but inspections are not being carried out due to the union's ban.

After an attack on Tax Authority inspectors in Bnei Brak on July 16, the civil servants' union banned employees from working in the city without security measures. On Tuesday, July 28, union chairman Ofir Alkalai sent a letter to Tax Authority director Shai Aharonovich with demands: coordination of inspections with the police and provision of police escort, issuance of additional technological tools, targeted insurance considering increased risk, and a salary supplement. Alkalai warned that the union would not hesitate to use any organizational and legal means to ensure a safe working environment. The Tax Authority previously announced the resumption of work in Bnei Brak after a meeting between Aharonovich and Mayor Hanoch Zeibert on July 19, but in practice inspections are not being conducted due to the union's ban. The attack occurred when a crowd of residents surrounded inspectors in the Kiryat Vizhnitz neighborhood, throwing stones and making threats. Police evacuated the inspectors. A communication channel of Hasidic communities spread a message calling for non-cooperation with 'uninvited guests.'
