Taiwan: Nine indicted for exporting advanced AI servers to China — including an Nvidia employee

Prosecutors in Taiwan have indicted nine individuals, including a current Nvidia employee and two former Super Micro employees, for allegedly illegally exporting 74 advanced AI servers equipped with B300 processors to China, bypassing US export restrictions. The servers were shipped via Indonesia, Japan, and Hong Kong. Four of the defendants face up to five years in prison.

Prosecutors in Taiwan have filed indictments against nine individuals, including a current Nvidia employee and two former Super Micro employees, for allegedly illegally exporting advanced AI servers to China. According to the indictment, 74 servers containing B300 processors, whose sale to China is prohibited, were successfully shipped via Indonesia, Japan, and Hong Kong. An additional attempt to export 56 servers failed and they remain in Taiwan. The prosecution is seeking the maximum penalty of five years in prison for four of the defendants, including an Nvidia manager identified by his surname, Chang, described as the "central figure" in approving the release of the processors. Some defendants established a company in Japan and fake websites to circumvent export restrictions. Nvidia spokesperson Patrick Rutherford stated the company will cooperate with authorities. Super Micro stated that the arrest of its former employees was made possible through its cooperation with authorities.
