Suspect in Benyahu Razi murder remanded; prison officer investigation continues

Meanwhile, the investigation of the prison officer suspected of aiding his escape continues. The remand of an additional minor and three female suspects was also extended.

The court today (Tuesday) extended the remand of Aviyor Sasson, the main suspect in the murder of the late Benyahu Razi, who was captured yesterday after a three-week manhunt. Sasson was arrested by detectives from the Jerusalem District Central Unit with aerial support, while he was on his way to Jerusalem in a taxi and was stopped at the Harel Tunnel. Police investigation revealed that during his escape he hid in various locations in the north and center of the country. Meanwhile, Lahav 433 investigators continue to probe the prison officer suspected of obstruction of justice and breach of trust, after suspicions arose that she had a personal relationship with an inmate close to Sasson and helped him escape. Additionally, a traffic police officer who met with two of the female suspects shortly after the murder and did not report it is being investigated. The remand of another minor and three female suspects was extended, while another suspect was released under restrictive conditions. The murder case began about three weeks ago, when Benyahu Razi, 19, from Givat Ze'ev, was stabbed to death in a guest apartment in the Nahlaot neighborhood of Jerusalem, apparently in a planned ambush.
