Suhail Shalouf, a child who had not yet turned fourteen, was killed in an Israeli strike two evenings ago while collecting firewood in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip. His mother stood before his body in the morgue of Nasser Medical Complex, bidding him farewell with grieving words: "Yima, get up, Yima.. you are a groom, Yima, you are in heaven.. I chose you as a martyr." His aunt, Raneen Shalouf, affirmed that he was not carrying a weapon but was looking for fuel for cooking, saying: "The boy went to get firewood so we could cook, eat, and drink.. he did not go to fight, by God, he had no weapon." She added that the family resides in Mawasi, and that collecting firewood has become a necessity for the displaced amid the shortage of basic needs. She wondered where the aid and safety are, noting that the family had lost a brother of Suhail about a year ago, and that the war had claimed other relatives. She addressed a message to the world: "Where is the world regarding our cause? Every day we die.. every day we burn.. every day we are scorched."
