A family from Ma'ale Adumim that got stuck in a tunnel on their way to the city yesterday (Saturday) was rescued by police after four hours, following flooding caused by sudden rain that fell in the afternoon. The tunnel was completely flooded, and the family members - parents and a child - needed to be rescued through the windows. The resident said that the police helped a lot, but criticized the drainage maintenance: "The holes were blocked" and "they dealt with it like in the Stone Age," as he described a municipal worker cleaning the drain with a stick. Inspector Daniel Israel, head of the investigations department at the Shalem station, described the operation: "The moment we arrived at the scene - we realized it was a life-threatening situation." The officers entered with the police jeep, rescued the family through the windows to the roof of the vehicle and then to the hood of the patrol car, using a safety net on the windshield. The event is described as rare, with more than 25 mm of rain in August, which has occurred only 3 times in the past.
