In an opinion column in Maariv, Kinneret Barashi attacks the Democrats party and its chairman Yair Golan for their conduct toward Einav Zangauker, the mother of a hostage. According to the column, Zangauker claimed that in a February meeting at the election headquarters, Golan promised her a reserved spot on his list; she trusted him and kept the secret, but he did not keep his word, the connection was severed, and instead of an answer came silence. Golan did not deny it but found an excuse to disengage, offering her a consolation prize with a salary and campaign activity. Barashi claims Zangauker wanted a real place in the Knesset, with an office, advisors, and a salary, but party members did not want her—only her pain and bluntness to incite and harm efforts to return the hostages. She stresses there is no criticism of Zangauker's pain, but her voice was blunt, inflammatory, and violent, crossing lines. Still, she wonders how a camp that purports to be sensitive gave a platform to such a style. Barashi asserts that the silence of party members says it all: Zangauker was wanted as long as her voice was strong and mobilizing, but when she sought power of her own, solidarity ended. She accuses the party of using her pain for political purposes and showing moral revulsion when she asked for a real place. The failure, she says, is that of Golan and of all who applauded her pain and curses when it was useful but stayed silent when she wanted to be more than the screaming face of a campaign.
