Soldier back from Gaza, then the sting in Tel Aviv: 'I'll pull out a knife and stab you'

A combat soldier on leave from his service in the Gaza Strip encountered a man on Ibn Gabirol Street in Tel Aviv who said he had been in an accident and asked for financial help. According to an indictment filed with the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court, the defendant, a 41-year-old city resident, asked for 1,400 shekels in cash and promised to repay via Bit. The soldier withdrew 2,000 shekels from an ATM, and the defendant snatched the money. After the soldier demanded the money back, the defendant returned 500 shekels and kept 1,500 shekels. When the soldier continued to follow him, the defendant threatened to "pull out a knife and stab him." The soldier did not back down, called the police, and continued the chase. The defendant fled by taxi and bus, and at the bus entrance attacked the soldier. Officers who arrived arrested him, and he tried to mislead them with the name and ID number of another person. The indictment charges him with obtaining money by fraud, threats, assault to rob, and impersonation.
