Slovenia Boycotted Eurovision Over Israel — But Everything Changed

Slovenian broadcaster RTV SLO has confirmed it is considering a return to Eurovision 2027 after a change in government and the arrival of a prime minister with pro-Israel views. Previously, Slovenia boycotted the 2026 contest due to Israel's participation. The EBU has confirmed Canada's debut at Eurovision 2027 in Bulgaria.

Slovenian public broadcaster RTV SLO confirmed on August 12 that it is seriously considering the country's return to Eurovision 2027. This comes after a change of government in Slovenia and the arrival of a prime minister with pro-Israel views. Previously, Slovenia was one of five countries that boycotted Eurovision 2026 in Vienna due to Israel's participation, and RTV SLO even refused to broadcast the contest, instead showing programs about Palestinian culture. Now, amid political changes, the country's position is shifting. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has already confirmed that Canada will participate in Eurovision for the first time in 2027, which will be held in Bulgaria. The return of interest from previously boycotting countries and Canada's joining indicate notable changes in the contest's structure. For Slovenia, a possible return means a chance to once again present its representative on Europe's largest music stage.
