A year and a half after the attempted lynching of Jews and Israelis at the airport in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, the fate of some of those involved has been revealed. Omar Janburuyev, a Russian citizen and father of four, who took part in the pogrom, was killed in the war in Ukraine. Earlier, another participant, Muhammad-Said Murtazaliev, was killed at the front. Abakar Abakarov, suspected as a main instigator, was murdered in a rented villa in Istanbul with signs of knife wounds. He ran a Telegram channel "Morning of Dagestan" with 66,000 followers, which published extreme anti-Semitic materials. In the incident itself, on October 29, 2023, crowds broke into the airport to catch passengers from a flight from Israel, but the lynching was prevented when the passengers were evacuated. About 20 police officers were injured. About 1,200 people took part, only about 130 were prosecuted, and many were sentenced to 6 to 15 years in prison. Due to a shortage of soldiers, Russia is recruiting prisoners to the front, and the number of prisoners has decreased by 40%. At least six convicts are still fighting at the front. The murder of Abakarov has not been solved; a suspect who helped the killer was arrested. The preacher Israel Akhmednabiev, considered a leading figure in incitement, was sentenced to prison but is outside Russia.
