Andrea Vieira Gaspar, a 51-year-old Spanish citizen, died after extensive plastic surgery in the Brazilian city of Goiânia. She had saved for two years for the procedure, collecting 118,000 reais (about $23,000). Surgeon Lessandro Martins performed six procedures in a single eight-hour session: a facelift, blepharoplasty, liposuction, and facial fat grafting. Notably, the patient never met the doctor in person before the operation—all tests were done in Spain and sent to the Brazilian team. After the procedures, Gaspar's condition deteriorated sharply: according to her sister, the patient's tongue swelled severely, blocking her airway. Relatives claim the clinic staff did not respond to their pleas for help, and the facility had no own intensive care unit or ambulance on standby. The woman died in her sister's arms. The clinic's management, through its lawyer Cristiane Pereira Couto, categorically denies allegations of negligence, insisting that help was provided immediately and all protocols were followed. Surgeon Martins cited medical confidentiality and expressed condolences. The family also stated that documents indicated a bacterial infection detected before the operation and are outraged that the intervention was allowed.
