Siren Out of Rank: Ministry of Miri Regev Missed Goldknopf's Resignation
It emerged that leader of Yahadut HaTorah, Yitzhak Goldknopf, illegally used a siren at a protest against conscription, as the permit was issued to him as Minister of Construction and was not returned after his resignation. The Ministry of Transport placed responsibility on Goldknopf, stating that he forgot to report his departure from office.
A month after Yitzhak Goldknopf, leader of the Yahadut HaTorah bloc, activated a siren on his car during an ultra-Orthodox protest, it emerged that the siren was issued to him as Minister of Construction and was not returned after his resignation. On Thursday, July 30, representatives of the Ministry of Transport stated that Goldknopf "forgot to report his departure from office." The protest, where participants blocked Highway 1 near Jerusalem to protest the arrest of draft dodgers, took place on June 24. The driver of Goldknopf's car, who led the protest convoy, activated the flashing light and siren — as the police noted, "without operational necessity." Following the incident, Knesset member Naor Shiri (Yesh Atid) submitted an inquiry to the Ministry of Transport. The response states that the permit was issued on January 24, 2023, in connection with the post of Minister of Construction, and the holder is not entitled to use it while not performing duties. The Ministry of Transport placed responsibility on Goldknopf, claiming he forgot to report his resignation in June 2025. Goldknopf's resignation and his bloc's exit from the government were widely covered by the media. No comment was received from the deputy's office.
