Shas MK attacks High Court: 'A political body that helps the opposition'
MK Michael Malchieli (Shas) attacked the High Court of Justice, calling it 'a political body that helps the opposition,' following a High Court hearing on the law freezing the arrest of Haredi draft dodgers. Malchieli argued there is no point in sending representatives to hearings since the outcome is known in advance. In response, MK Gilad Kariv (The Democrats) warned of anarchy. The High Court issued an interim order freezing the law.
MK Michael Malchieli from Shas attacked the High Court of Justice this morning (Wednesday) in an interview with the program 'This Morning' on Kan News, following yesterday's High Court hearing on the law freezing the arrest of Haredi draft dodgers. Malchieli called the High Court 'a political body that helps the opposition' and argued there is no point in sending representatives to hearings, as the outcome is known in advance. He added that the Knesset's legal adviser presented political arguments, not legal ones. Malchieli said the Haredi public does not recognize High Court rulings, and that the Haredi representation is working to regulate the status of Torah students by law. In response, MK Gilad Kariv from The Democrats warned of anarchy and called for dramatic political change. At the end of the hearing, the High Court issued an interim order freezing the law. During the hearing, Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs said the state needs Haredi recruits, while the representative of the Attorney General argued that the law is invalid and harmful.
