Severe shortage: MDA urges public to come and donate blood immediately

Magen David Adom (MDA) issued an urgent call today (Wednesday) for the public to immediately come to blood donation stations across the country and donate blood, following a severe shortage of blood units. To maintain a proper blood supply and ensure continuous delivery of life-saving blood units, about 1,200 donors are needed daily. MDA's deputy director of medicine and blood services, Dr. Rafael Strugo, explained that Israel's blood supply must be available at all times, and that blood units are delivered daily to all hospitals and the IDF. He noted that during the summer there has been a significant decline in the number of donors, while the need continues unabated. MDA's director general, Eli Bin, emphasized that blood cannot be manufactured, imported, or replaced, and that a donation can be the difference between life and death for a cancer patient, a woman giving birth, a seriously injured person, or a child in need of life-saving treatment. The call aims to mobilize the public for the national mission of saving lives.
