When bone marrow stem cells age, they begin producing specific immune cells that trigger chronic hidden inflammation, which gradually destroys healthy tissues. Researchers focused on the SIRT3 protein, responsible for mitochondrial stability. It was found that SIRT3 levels in stem cells of humans and mice drop significantly with age. In the experiment, scientists increased SIRT3 production in mouse stem cells and transplanted them into animals. At two years old, these mice showed low inflammation, ran longer distances, performed better on memory tests, and controlled blood sugar better. Re-transplanting the generated immune cells into other young mice gave similar results. The authors urge caution: tests were on genetically modified mouse material, and the preparation procedure may have affected subjects. The study assessed only certain health markers and does not yet prove human life extension.
