Samara family demands accountability for shooting at their vehicle

The family accused the Palestinian Authority's Preventive Security apparatus of opening fire, and stressed that the case has not been closed despite months passing, demanding judicial measures and the release of Samer Samara from Junayd prison.

The Samara family, at home and abroad, has renewed its demand for justice and accountability of those responsible in the security services for the shooting incident on the vehicle of the fugitive Samer Samara's family, which occurred on February 15 of last year. The incident resulted in the martyrdom of his son Ali and the injury of his young sister Ronza, who lost her right eye, in addition to injuries to several family members. In a press statement on Friday, the family affirmed that months have passed without closing the case, stressing that their right has not lapsed by statute of limitations, and calling for judicial measures against all those involved. They pointed out that a force from the Authority's Preventive Security apparatus fired at the vehicle, and that they took a responsible national stance to preserve civil peace despite knowing the identity of the participants. They added that the case has entered a spiral of stalling and unfulfilled promises despite multiple mediations. Regarding Samer Samara, the family said he remains detained in Junayd prison under difficult conditions, accusing parties of pressuring him and his family. They accused the Authority of failing to implement understandings, considering that the path is witnessing limited progress and repeated setbacks. They warned that continuing to deal in this manner sends a serious message about the rules of using weapons and accountability. They called on journalists and media to keep the case present, affirming their adherence to their right to their son's blood and the right of the child Ronza, and demanding that those responsible be referred to the judiciary, the release of Samer, and an end to pressures. They said that mediations have been exhausted and promises repeated without results, warning that they are one step away from ceasing communication with mediators.
