During Russia's massive strike on Ukraine on the night of July 30, a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile crossed the Polish border and fell in a field near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin Voivodeship. The missile flew about 100 kilometers into Polish territory, leaving a crater about 10 meters in diameter and up to five meters deep. Polish military scrambled F-16 fighters and were ready to destroy the target if it moved toward populated areas. Poland's Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador, and Prime Minister Donald Tusk said all indications point to a Russian Kh-101 missile, which was confirmed by Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk. The Lublin prosecutor's office launched an investigation, noting a significant amount of explosive in the warhead. NATO confirmed the airspace violation, with Secretary-General Mark Rutte calling it a reckless act by Russia. According to Polish authorities, Russia launched 74 missiles and 284 drones, with about two dozen missiles heading toward the border, most of which were intercepted. Also on July 31, Polish F-16s intercepted a Russian Il-20 over the Baltic with its transponder off.
