He said the escalation in the region distracts US attention and reduces support for Ukraine, including supplies of Patriot air defense systems. Zelensky noted he does not know whether US President Donald Trump views the confrontation with Iran as part of a broader picture related to the Russian-Ukrainian war, but he himself is confident these events are interconnected. He recalled that Russia previously transferred drones to Iran, which were used in attacks on Israel and other Middle Eastern countries. "This is a confirmed fact. Russian components were found in the wreckage of downed drones," Zelensky stressed. In addition, Moscow provided Tehran with satellite images of US military facilities. According to Zelensky, the Russian leadership positively assesses the prolongation of hostilities in the Middle East, as Washington is forced to direct resources to the region, reducing the possibilities for aiding Ukraine.
