On the night and morning of August 9, 2026, Russia conducted a large-scale attack on the Ukrainian cities of Odesa and Kharkiv. In Odesa, an air raid alert was declared around 03:20, followed by numerous explosions. Russian forces used dozens of missiles and drones, and the attack lasted for several hours. Residential buildings in two districts were damaged and partially destroyed, and fires broke out, including in the city center, where a four-story building and cars caught fire. The fire area reached about a thousand square meters. At least eight people were injured, seven in moderate condition. In Kharkiv, the strike hit the Saltivka district: a drone hit a ten-story building, destroying floors from the seventh to the tenth. Two people were killed, at least 12 were wounded, and one was hospitalized in serious condition. Rescuers are clearing the rubble. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated that Russian forces were striking residential buildings. In total, at least 20 people were affected, and two were killed.
