In ynet's election arena, second episode, MK Michael Malkieli of Shas and MK Oded Forer of Yisrael Beiteinu clashed. Malkieli, formerly the Minister of Religious Services, defended the law regulating the status of Torah scholars, claiming that the IDF said the law would bring soldiers. Forer, chairman of the Knesset Committee for the Development of the Negev and Galilee, attacked sharply: "We are in a struggle for necessity. The IDF needs soldiers and fighters," and accused the government of promoting draft evasion. The argument escalated into a clash over the protests: Malkieli accused the opposition of burning barns and splitting the country, Forer denied it and claimed that Malkieli participates in protests with Rabbi Yizdi. Forer asked: "Where were you when soldiers were killed in Lebanon?" and mentioned 68 votes. Malkieli replied that the arrests do not contribute to conscription and that Baharav-Miara is persecuting Torah scholars. The two also differed on the question of the Basic Law: Torah Study, with Forer referring to the words of Rabbi Yaakov Medan.
