Returning to the political arena? Avraham Burg to run for Knesset

Avraham (Avrum) Burg, 71, announced today (Saturday) that he will join the party "Makom LeKulanu" and run for the Knesset on its behalf. Burg, who served as a Knesset member, Speaker of the 15th Knesset, and Chairman of the Jewish Agency, returns to political activity after years of writing and publishing books. The party, founded in June 2026, is a joint Jewish-Arab party, led by Rula Daoud and Alon-Lee Green.

Burg, who previously served as a Knesset member, Speaker of the 15th Knesset, and Chairman of the Jewish Agency, returns to political activity after years of writing and publishing seven books. Burg is known for his criticism of government policy. In June 2025, he came out against the operation "With a Lion" and claimed that "this war is the most unnecessary and cynical of Israel's wars." In an interview with Tucker Carlson, he criticized the operation "Lion's Roar" and described it as "the First World War of Jewish and Christian fundamentalism." He also defined the settlement enterprise as "daily crimes against innocent Palestinians" by "wild and cruel settlers." "Makom LeKulanu" is a new Israeli party, joint Jewish-Arab, founded in June 2026. It is led by activists Rula Daoud, one of the leaders of the "Standing Together" movement, and Alon-Lee Green. Burg was previously a partner in establishing a similar party called "All Its Citizens" in 2022, but it did not run in the elections.
