Reservist soldier Uriel Getahun ends his life: "Wounds that no one sees"

Staff Sgt. (res.) Uriel Molto Getahun, 24, from Karmiel, took his own life last Thursday. He was not on active duty. The brother of his friend, Staff Sgt. Avraham Ovagen, a soldier in Battalion 932 of the Nahal Brigade who fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip in February 2024, wrote: "Uriel is a painful reminder that not every wound is visible from the outside. Our soldiers can return home healthy in body, but carry within them deep wounds that no one sees." The mayor of Karmiel, Moshe Kuninsky, also wrote in his memory, calling for improved mental health care for reservists. The IDF stated that the circumstances of death may be related to his military service, and that the family will be accompanied in an appeal to the Ministry of Defense for recognition as a casualty due to service.
