He died in hospital after his health abruptly deteriorated during a planned medical procedure. Born in Montreal, Canada, to a prominent Belz Hasidic family, Farber advocated for key accommodations such as allowing participants to serve without uniforms and tailoring the program to married men outside the full-time yeshiva system who maintain close ties with rabbinic mentors. In a past interview, he emphasized the importance of candidates consulting with their rabbis before joining. He was deeply involved in community life in Givat Ze'ev and is survived by his wife and six children, including a newborn daughter.
