Barry Mitchell, one of the first bass guitarists of the legendary British rock band Queen, has died. The musician's death was announced by official Queen historian Greg Brooks. Mitchell passed away on August 17; the cause of death has not been disclosed. He joined Queen in August 1970, becoming the band's second bassist as Freddie Mercury, Brian May, and Roger Taylor were just beginning their journey. Mitchell remained in the lineup for about five months, until January 1971, and performed with the band at 13 concerts. He is credited with playing the original bass parts on early versions of the songs Liar and Son And Daughter. After Mitchell's departure, John Deacon took over as bassist, forming the classic Queen lineup. Despite his short tenure with the band, Mitchell communicated with fans for decades and participated in events dedicated to Queen's legacy, sharing memories of the early period.
