Qatar names condition for ending the US-Iran war
Qatar said that ending the US-Iran war requires reaching an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and Oman. Iran has blocked the strait since the war began in late February, demanding the lifting of the blockade and the introduction of paid transit. Trump threatened strikes on Oman and demanded Iran's capitulation.
Qatar's foreign ministry, serving as the main mediator between Washington and Tehran, said that resuming peace talks to end the war between the US and Iran critically depends on reaching agreements on the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and Oman. This was reported by The Times of Israel. The war began in late February, and since then the strait has been effectively blocked by the Iranian side, although in peacetime about a fifth of the world's oil and gas supplies pass through it. Qatari foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari expressed hope for an early agreement between Muscat and Tehran, noting that this would facilitate the resumption of negotiations. Iran and Oman are actively discussing navigation rules, with the Iranian side saying that route coordinates have been agreed upon, although a previous memorandum signed in June failed. Iranian negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf demands the lifting of the American naval blockade, the introduction of paid transit, and a permit system. US President Donald Trump threatened strikes on Oman and demanded Iran's full capitulation.
