The Ministry of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners in the Gaza Strip held the Israeli occupation government and its prison administration fully responsible for the death of prisoner Ihab Muhammad Abd al-Qadir Diab (36) from the Gaza Strip, stressing that his death adds to the record of ongoing violations and crimes against Palestinian prisoners and detainees. The ministry said that the announcement of Diab's death, after a long period of concealing his fate, sheds light again on the conditions of Gaza Strip prisoners inside occupation prisons and detention centers, and on what it described as the policy of blackout and forced disappearance pursued by the occupation authorities against detainees. It stressed that cases of prisoner deaths inside occupation prisons, especially detainees from the Gaza Strip, cannot be treated as isolated incidents or natural deaths, given what it pointed to as testimonies and data speaking of torture, ill-treatment, deprivation of medical care, and harsh conditions. The ministry demanded an independent and transparent international investigation into the circumstances of Diab's death, revealing the place and conditions of his detention, identifying and holding those responsible for his death accountable, as well as handing over his body to his family. It also called for revealing the fate of all detainees from the Gaza Strip whose conditions and places of detention are still being kept secret by the occupation authorities.
