"Prisoners' Media Office": Abu Safiya faces serious health condition inside 'Rakevet' prison

The Prisoners' Media Office said that the prisoner doctor Hossam Abu Safiya is facing difficult health and humanitarian conditions inside 'Rakevet' prison, after repeated assaults by occupation forces that caused fractures in his ribcage. The office explained that on July 27, 2026, he was subjected to the most violent suppression operation since his arrest, which included beating with sticks, electric shocks, firing gas and rubber bullets, and the use of police dogs. It pointed to the deterioration of his health due to heart disease, high blood pressure, neck pain, herniated disc, hernia, and vision problems, and that the prison administration only provides painkillers and blood pressure medication. The office held the occupation authorities fully responsible for his life and safety, calling on the international community to intervene urgently.

The Prisoners' Media Office said on Wednesday that the prisoner doctor Hossam Abu Safiya is facing difficult health and humanitarian conditions inside 'Rakevet' prison, after repeated assaults by occupation forces that caused fractures in his ribcage. In a press statement, the office explained that Abu Safiya was subjected on July 27, 2026 to the most violent suppression operation since his arrest, describing that day as "the hardest in his life inside prisons," noting that during the operation prisoners were subjected to severe beating with sticks, electric shocks, firing of gas and rubber bullets, as well as the use of police dogs. It stated that the health condition of doctor Abu Safiya is continuously deteriorating, as he suffers from heart disease, high blood pressure, severe neck pain, a herniated disc, a hernia, and vision problems, in addition to continuous dizziness and rapid heartbeat. It added that the administration of 'Rakevet' prison only provides painkillers and blood pressure medication, despite the seriousness of his health condition and his need for real medical follow-up. The office noted that Abu Safiya was subjected to a violent assault after being transferred to the prison on June 24, 2026, where he was beaten with sticks, resulting in a fracture in one of his ribs, pointing to the continuation of violations against him, in addition to spending 21 days in solitary confinement under harsh conditions. The Prisoners' Media Office held the occupation authorities fully responsible for the life and safety of doctor Abu Safiya, stressing that the continued targeting of him despite his critical health condition constitutes a serious violation of international laws and conventions. The office called on the international community and human rights institutions to urgently intervene to stop the violations against Palestinian prisoners and work for their release.
